Frequently Asked Questions
How do I become a member?
Just pay the one-year membership fee of $30, which entitles you to discounted rates on all retreats, workshops, and one-day seminars. You'll also receive a discount coupon for a one-day workshop of your choice, and other perks from several bookstores, cafes and literary journals. To become a member, either call us at 303.297.1185, or fill out our order form.
How do I sign up for a workshop?
Give us a call at 303.297.1185 (fax: 303.292.9425) and give us a credit card deposit to guarantee your space in the class. Or, fill out this easy order form and pay online!
You may also send check deposits to 2123 Downing Street, Denver, CO 80205. Make sure to note the name and start date of the class you're signing up for. We'll send out a confirmation e-mail (or letter) as soon as we receive your registration.
Since most workshops are capped at eight or ten members, they tend to fill up well before the start date. It's best to sign up at least two weeks before the class begins. Please note: the deposit is a nonrefundable, nontransferable payment of $50 ($30 for one-days). It's required to guarantee your space.
May I pay by credit card?
Yes! We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. You can call us direct to pay for a workshop, or pay online using our Web form.
What are your payment terms?
The balance of the workshop is due the first week of class. Any balance still open after the final meeting will be subject to late charges. We can accomodate a variety of payment plans; just give us a call.
How late can I sign up?
All our workshops are capped at eight to ten members each, so they fill up quickly, sometimes several weeks before the first meeting. We accept members on a first-come, first-serve basis.
If you're unsure about a class, please give us a call and we'll get you in touch with the instructor so you can talk to them and get a feel for the workshop.
What if I have to drop out of a class?
Our policy is this:
When you sign up for a class, you're either (1) reserving a spot that prevents another writer from taking that workshop, or (2) being counted in the minimum number of enrollments, which sometimes determines whether or not the course will run. Because of this, you must cancel in advance of the start date. Refunds (minus a transaction fee of $50) are available for those who cancel at least one week before the first meeting. For one-day workshops, we also require one-week notice.
If you cancel less than one week before the first meeting date, no refund is available. All deposits and payments made are nontransferable. Lighthouse cannot provide refunds, transfer payments, or offer makeup sessions for classes missed as a result of illnesses, job losses, emergencies or events beyond anyone's control. If, however, Lighthouse cancels a class due to low enrollments, all payments and deposits will be refunded in full.
The balance due should be paid to the instructor at the first session; please call if you need to set up a payment plan. Checks should be made payable to Lighthouse Writers.
Lighthouse Writers reserves the right to remove any student from a workshop at the instructor’s discretion.
What's included in the cost of one-day workshops (10:00 am to 4:00 pm)?
One-day workshops include all materials, and lunch. For Half-day workshops, materials, drinks, and snacks will be provided.
