The Writer's Studio
with
Tobias Wolff
September 15 and 16

The Lighthouse Writer's Studio with Eli Gottlieb and Tobias Wolff washeld on Saturday, September 15, at 4:00 PM, at the Ricketson Theatre in the Denver Performing Arts Complex. To hear a podcast of this event, drop by our blogsite.

After the Writer's Studio, from 7:30-10:00 PM, many Lighthouswers walked down the street with us to the lovely Larimer gourmet establishment Tamayo, where we took over the rooftop terrace and raised a glass to literature. Our annual fundraising dinner featured a talk from Tobias Wolff, faculty contributions to the Lighthouse napkin story project (slightly ripped off from Esquire), participant napkin entries, and a fabulous sit-down meal overlooking Denver and the mountains. All proceeds from the evening will go toward Lighthouse programming, including the Young Writers Program.

On Sunday, September 16, Tobias Wolff led a writing seminar entitled "The Lies of Memoir and the Truth of Fiction," at the Tattered Cover LoDo location, 9:30 to 11:30 AM.

Tobias Wolff's books include two novels: The Barracks Thief and Old School; two memoirs: This Boy's Life and In Pharaoh's Army; and three collections of short stories: In the Garden of the North American Martyrs, Back in the World, and The Night in Question. All of them are fabulous.

He has also been the editor of Best American Short Stories, The Vintage Book of Contemporary American Short Stories, and A Doctor's Visit: The Short Stories of Anton Chekhov. His work appears regularly in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Harper's, and other magazines and literary journals.

He is currently on the faculty of the creative writing program at Stanford University.
