The Fine Print: Cancellation/Dropout Policy

When you sign up for a class, you are (1) reserving a spot that prevents another writer from taking that workshop, (2) being counted in the minimum number of enrollments, which sometimes determines whether or not the course will run, and (3) increasing the salary that an instructor receives (instructor salaries are based on the number of students in a workshop).

Because of this, you must cancel in advance of the start date. Refunds (minus a cancellation fee of $50 for weekly workshops, $35 for one-days) are available for those who cancel at least one week before the first meeting. For one-day workshops, we also require one-week notice. Membership fees are not refundable.

If you cancel less than one week before the first meeting date, no refund is available.

All deposits, payments, and membership fees are nontransferable. Lighthouse cannot provide refunds, transfer payments, or offer makeup sessions for classes missed as a result of illnesses, job losses, emergencies or events beyond anyone's control. If, however, Lighthouse cancels a class due to low enrollments, all payments and deposits will be refunded in full.

The balance due should be paid to the instructor at the first session; please call if you need to set up a payment plan. Checks should be made payable to Lighthouse Writers.

Lighthouse Writers reserves the right to remove any student from a workshop at the instructor’s discretion.
