This special springtime Writer’s Studio will feature an onstage reading by former US Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize-winner Mark Strand, followed by a ranging, casual onstage discussion exploring the writing life. Eli Gottlieb (whose book Now You See Him sits atop the local bestseller list) and Mark will discuss starting out, the arc of Mark’s growth as a writer, some of the more nourishing friendships formed along the way, writing in Rome, and how the world of poetry--the making and reading of it--have changed through the years. Less an interview and more a conversation, this interlude will allow the audience a dynamic look into the life of one of today's great living writers.
Cost: $15 for Lighthouse members, $20 for nonmembers. Students $5 with valid ID.

An intimate short lecture and Q&A session with former US Poet Laureate Mark Strand, during which he'll discuss the writer's craft. Some questions he’ll address include: What makes a good poem? What is your writing process like, and has it changed over time? What other poets do you admire, and why? What do you think is the best way for an aspiring poet to learn the craft? How do you know when a poem is finished? Who should poets be reading, and why? Recommended for all serious (or unserious!) poets and writers.
Cost: $40 for Lighthouse members, $50 for nonmembers. Students $20 with valid ID.
