When we look at the manuscripts and/or published texts of prose writers we often recognize how they've been "writing by ear," revising to get rhythms and reverberations into their essays and stories. This seminar investigates examples by major essayists and fiction writers and then sets to work on prose of participants, suggesting techniques for listening to sentences and paragraphs and heightening the power of the prose by writing by ear.
