In real estate it's location. In novels it's the first chapter(where, by the way, you establish your book's location). We'll workshop your first chapter and do exercises to strengthen all the things a great first chapter needs: Character establishment, development, getting the action rolling, setting the scene, anticipating the arc of the book and sensing where you're going while still incorporating exposition that won't lose the reader - or the writer. You must have a draft of a first chapter for a novel or memoir. 15 pages 12 pt type double spaced max or permission of instructor. You will need to bring copies for all participants.
