Workshop Details:
Title:
8 Week: Poetry Workshop
Cost:
$250.00
Description:
This course gives students an opportunity to work on their own poems at the same time as we do a bit of swimming with the sharks of poetry, which, as Louis Simpson once wrote, "…can digest / Rubber, coal, uranium, moons, poems." Each week we will consider some brief work--either classic or modern--that arguably deserves our attention, and then we will turn to student writing.
We will explore the methods that poets have used for millennia to forge their art, from figures of speech and syntax, to rhythm and meter, to the original creative impulse: the desire to know ourselves. We will argue long into the night, embrace various contradictions as best we can, then return home both intoxicated and hungry. A good place for beginners and those wishing to hone their poetic voice.
