Memoir can cover a lot of ground—the first eighteen years or so of a life, a year in a particular place, an intense couple of days. It can be about childhood, family, work, travel, memorable people or places or events. In this series of weekend intensive workshops we’ll make progress on the memoirs we aspire to by examining the variety of structures or roadmaps in successful memoirs, devising tentative maps for our own, developing strategies for immersion in memory and material, and drafting and workshopping a section or chapter or short memoir/essay to get us on the road to the memoir we need to write. Essayist and memoirist Robert Root will provide a list of memoirs for perusal and investigation to everyone who registers early.
Please note: This class meets on two consecutive Saturdays and Sundays--June 7 & 8, and June 14 & 15, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM.
