How do accomplished writers convey emotion to their readers, and how can you do it too? For that matter, what is emotion? Through exercises, readings, and discussions of participants' work in progress, this workshop will explore some of the rhetorical devices writers use to evoke emotion in readers: contrast and ellipsis, heightened (or flattened) diction, reflection, juxtaposition, repetition. For writers of fiction and nonfiction prose.
Please note: This class meets on two consecutive Saturdays and Sundays--June 7 & 8, and June 14 & 15, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM.
