Celebrating Closing on Land of New Building

LIGHTHOUSE WRITERS WORKSHOP CELEBRATES CLOSING ON LAND FOR NEW BUILDING

Leading arts funders and community members support development of a new literary arts center

DENVER, CO (February 18, 2021)—On February 1, Lighthouse Writers Workshop finalized the purchase of land for the construction of the organization’s new building on York Street. To date, our generous donors have pledged a total of $1.6M towards the project, including a $250,000 grant and $60,000 grant from leading Denver-based arts funders Bonfils-Stanton Foundation and Gates Family Foundation.

“We’re very excited to be able to support the capital campaign for Lighthouse Writers Workshops’ new home. Lighthouse plays a crucial role in our community, fostering literacy, writers, and a love for writing and reading,” says Bonfils-Stanton Foundation President and CEO, Gary Steuer. “This new facility will give them permanent real estate security and significantly increase their capacity to serve the community, both through their own programs, and as a welcoming space for other community partners.”

The 11,000 sq. foot building will be located in the Clayton and Cole neighborhoods, along 39th Avenue Greenway in north-central Denver, on York Street. There, Lighthouse will write a new chapter to expand programming, build community, serve youth, offer writing workshops, amplify and uplift historically marginalized communities, and continue to create both a physical and virtual space for Denver’s literary culture.

"With this new building, Lighthouse will be well-positioned to expand its essential role in our cultural community. The Gates Family Foundation is pleased to play a small part in supporting Lighthouse as they take this next step in sharing the literary arts with youth and adults in Denver and beyond," says President of Gates Family Foundation, Tom Gougeon.

Lighthouse currently serves over 40,000 people each year across various programming, workshops, and events. Our new home will allow Lighthouse to continue to evolve and grow to accommodate and support our dynamic and diverse community, both physically and virtually to elevate and nurture the power of story.
