Haitian-American Author Edwidge Danticat Coming to Denver
National Book Award finalist and MacArthur “Genius” Fellow weaves a masterful collection of short stories exploring the Haitian and Haitian-American experience.
DENVER, September 22, 2021—Edwidge Danticat, author of the Story-Prize winning collection Everything Inside, will visit Denver Saturday, October 2 as part of Lighthouse Writers Workshop’s Writer’s Studio series, rescheduled from April 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Danticat’s collection was the winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction, the Story Prize, and the Vilcek Prize in Literature. It was named one of the Best Books of the Year in 2019 by NPR, Time, Esquire, Buzzfeed, St.Louis Post-Dispatch, and Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The Times named it one of the “100 must–read books of 2019.” Danticat’s work chronicles the nuanced portraits of the Haitian immigrant experience with themes like family, isolation, and community focusing particularly on the lives of women and their relationships.
On October 2, she’ll join Lighthouse instructor Carleen Brice (Orange Mint and Honey) on stage for a conversation, reading, and book signing at the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Complex (119 Park Ave. W.). Earlier that afternoon, she’ll teach a craft class, Writing Life and Death, at Evans School Auditorium (1115 Acoma St.). Books will be available for purchase on-site at both events.
Tickets for the on-stage talk are $10 for Lighthouse members and $20 for non–members. Students, seniors, veterans, and teachers can purchase tickets for $5. Ticket price includes beer, wine, and other drinks before and after the event. Doors open at 5:30 PM MDT, and then the program starts at 6:00 PM MDT. Registration is open for Danticat’s class, which is $65 for members and $75 for non-members. An all-access pass, which includes the writing class and the on-stage talk, is also available; $70 for members and $90 for non-members.
