Lit Fest Visiting Authors at a Glance (Dramatic Writing)

Playwrights and screenwriters, you've got a tough choice: either a weeklong advanced workshop with award-winning playwright and screenwriter Kenneth Lin, or a weekend advanced workshop with Francesca Sloane, a writer/producer on some of the most-watched, acclaimed tv series streaming today. Learn more about these two visiting writers below, and visit this link for more info about Lit Fest.

Kenneth Lin is the author of the plays Warrior Class ("like a flash summer storm"), Po Boy Tango ("exquisite kitchen confidential"), Said Saïd ("grueling, compelling drama"), and Intelligence Slave ("a unique and riveting drama"), among other. And his television credits include The First (Hulu), House of Cards (Netflix, Emmy nomination, best dramatic series), Warrior (HBO/Cinemax), and Sweetbitter (Starz).

One of his recent plays is in part about the rise of Vladimir Putin and those he crushed on his way to power. He wrote about getting inside the mind of an oligarch.

His weeklong workshop on first acts, one acts, and pilots will focus on hitting the right note right off the bat. Learn more here.

Francesca Sloane is currently writing on the newest season of Atlanta (FX) ("a wonderful, surreal, hilarious thing"). She's also co-creating a series at Netflix, as well as developing a project with Legendary. Prior to Fargo (FX) ("utterly masterful"), she developed a series at Apple and worked on set, writing with Beau Willimon on The First (Hulu) ("an inspiring epic"), which starred Sean Penn. She will be making her directorial feature debut on Headbangers – which was recently recognized by the Sundance Screenwriters Intensive (2020), as well as Black List and NALIP on their inaugural list of best unproduced LatinX screenplays.

Her weekend intensive will help participants craft worthy characters. Learn more here.
