--It's a long story...

--The road is a metaphor...you know, for our separateness from each other.

--To answer that, I need to explain how my grandfather came to be in the same town as his future wife, my grandmother, by the strangest of coincidences that only seem to show up in very compelling novels.

--She didn't cross it. That's the whole point.
