Last year, you may recall, one of our online short story writers, Kendal Muse, had a story selected to be performed alongside stories by Flannery O'Connor, Tobias Wolff, and Lorrie Moore in our first Page to the Stage contest. The good news is the contest is back.

In conjunction with our friends at Stories on Stage, the Page to Stage contest will once again be open to all members of the August Lighthouse short story (or Online Fiction) workshops. Each entry should fit the general topic: “Secrets and Lies.” Stories on Stage will select the winning entry based on their program needs and various other subjective criteria.  The writer whose story they select receives a $200 cash prize and the honor of hearing his or her story read by a professional actor in a Stories on Stage performance. The performance will also feature actors reading short fiction by T.C. Boyle, E.L. Doctorow, and William Faulkner, and will take place at the Denver Civic Theater on Saturday, November 13, 2010. Shows will run at 1:30 PM and 6:30 PM. We'll have ticket deals available, so stay tuned.

  1. Applicants must be enrolled in the August session of the Intro, Intermediate, or Advanced Short Story or the Boulder or Online Fiction workshops. The point is that writers will have the opportunity to workshop and refine, through our programs, their submissions.
  2. Stories must be no more than 4,000 words & should be double-spaced, 12-pt. font.
  3. Stories must relate, in some way, to the topic: “Secrets and Lies.”
  4. Stories must be submitted by Wednesday, October 13, to [email protected], who will forward them to Stories on Stage. Electronic submission by Word doc (or docx) is preferred.
  5. Winning selection will be made by the artistic director at Stories on Stage, as with last year.
  6. Revisions and/or edits may be required by Stories on Stage, with or without author permission.
