Statement on Asian American and Pacific Islander Violence

The Writing in Color community and Lighthouse Writers Workshop condemns Anti-Asian violence and the hate crimes that have intensified during the COVID-19 Pandemic, most recently with the murder of eight people, including six women of Asian descent, in Atlanta on Tuesday night. These are not isolated incidents; our local history is slated with Anti-Asian violence, from the burning down of Denver’s Chinatown in 1880 to Japanese internment camps in Colorado to these murders.

Racism and xenophobia must not be tolerated.

With fear fueling a rise in intolerance and discrimination, we must work together to continue the fight against racism. To our Asian American and Pacific Islander community—we give you our love and are standing with you. We will continue the fight against violence, racism, and xenophobia in all its forms.

Sincerely,

Manuel & Therese
