Timeliness is next to...

impossible for us.  Part of our problem is that Lighthouse is run by a bunch of (a) writers and (b) slackers. So our new, kickin' great assistant, Jennie Dorris, started two weeks ago and almost immediately finished a draft of this season's Lighthouse Beacon (compiled before she left by A-Ray), and it's taken two weeks to get the rest of us on board. So, instead of bombarding members with a lot of extra paper in their mailboxes (which would require printing, labeling, stamping, etc.), we decided to upload the PDF of the Lighthouse Fall 2007 Beacon here. In it we hear about Harrison Fletcher's fear of jail cells (and other constraints), Chris Ransick's mean screwball (pre shoulder injury), and the ideal dinner conversation piece: Czeslaw Milosz. (Who knew that 27 years after Milosz took it home, Doris Lessing would win the Nobel?) We also get reaffirmation about today's youth---they're not, in fact, all thumbing their iPods at the written word!---in the young writer's program spotlight.

Again, here's that Beacon: Lighthouse Fall 2007 Beacon (pdf).  Let us know if you see any mistakes!  We have a couple days before it goes to the printer... just in time for the calendar to be out of date.

Oh, and go Rox!  We're doing our part.
