We're all young...

... compared to somebody! This just came in from Publisher's Lunch:

90-Year-Old Virgin Novelist
Of Millard Kaufman's BOWL OF CHERRIES, the LATis wary of "another clever gimmick from the folks at McSweeney's," but finds instead they "appear to have found an ageless author who is ripe for a new audience."
They add: "The zany tale of a 14-year-old brainiac whose bad judgment lands him in an Iraqi prison awaiting his execution, Bowl of Cherries feels almost like a Wes Anderson film, with its twisted family dynamics, romantic obsessions and wholly improbable story line delivered in a deadpan voice simmering with mirth. Not surprisingly, three film companies are interested in optioning the book, and invitations to parties and to appear on Conan O'Brien's and Jay Leno's shows are flooding in."  A screenwriter, Kaufman co-created the character Mr. Magoo.  LAT

Having just read an excerpt of this novel in the current McSweeney's (The Barthelme issue), I have to say I'm excited for this one. Speaking of the Barthelme issue, there's a great contribution from our friend Brian Kiteley at DU. Check it out.

Feeling newly rejuvenated, I think I'll go write a novel or something.
