Vicki Lindner began reporting for New Jersey newspapers at 16, the year she published her first short story in American Girl. After receiving a B.A from Bard and an M.A in modern French fiction from Sarah Lawrence College, she freelanced for major magazines, like Omni and Cosmopolitan, in New York City. Her first short stories appeared in The Paris Review, Fiction, and Viva.  Later, she published a novel, Outlaw Games, with Dial Press and won an NEA fellowship, two New York State fellowships, and a PEN/NEA Syndicated Fiction Award. Her collaboration with a psychotherapist, Unbalanced Accounts: Why Women are Afraid of Money, was published by Atlantic Monthly Press, Viking/Penguin, and Allworth Press, and featured in Glamour, Redbook, and on the Oprah Winfrey Show. In 1989, Lindner, an adventurous world traveler, moved west to teach creative writing at the University of Wyoming, where she directed a Visiting Writer Program and helped launch the new MFA program. A recipient of UW’s prestigious Ellbogen Award for Meritorious Classroom Teaching, she has taught teenagers and adults throughout the West. Although she continued to write and publish short stories-- in New York Woman (fiction premiere); Ploughshares (3 stories), American Nature Writing, The Kenyon Review,  Chicklit: Postfeminist Fiction,  and other journals-- she grew passionate about the possibilities of creative nonfiction, contributing to Northern Lights, High Country News, Gastronomica, Western Humanities Review, Grand Tour, Seneca Review, American Literary Review, and New Writing, as well as the anthologies, Bearing Life; Women Writing about Childlessness, and In Short: A Collection of Brief Creative Nonfiction. She won two Wyoming fellowships for creative nonfiction, and was shortlisted for the Spokane short story prize.  A Lighthouse instructor since 2009, she writes opinion pieces, essays, and stories, while she is finishing a ‘sixties memoir, Baby, It’s You.
