Azar Kohzadi is an award-winning teacher and writer who has taught creative writing for over twenty years to students ranging from age 8-adult. Azar writes and teaches in myriad genres and styles, from ecopoetics to screenwriting, at a number of schools and venues, from Denver Art Museum to Denver Botanic Gardens, leading daylong workshops, semester-long courses, as well as summer camps and overnight writing retreats. 

Azar has dedicated most of her teaching career to Denver School of the Arts (DSA) where she has taught for twenty years, mostly as the director of the Creative Writing Department, where she continues to teach as a guest artist/visiting writer. Throughout Azar’s time at DSA, she developed creative writing curriculum in all genres, oversaw the audition process, created and co-directed a number of multi-disciplinary performance projects and led a number of travel-writing excursions. 

Azar has published poetry, memoir and fiction in a number of literary magazines, as well as journalistic publications. Most recently, Azar was a lead writer for Culture Dish, a book project involving immigrants and refugees in Denver and their stories connected to food and homeland.
