Carol Sklenicka

Carol Sklenicka has lived in California, Missouri, and Wisconsin, where she studied and taught writing for several decades. She is the author of long biographies of two renowned short story writers whose skill and struggle for success inspire other writers. Just published, Alice Adams: Portrait of a Writer was named an Editors’ Choice book by The New York Times Book Review, praised as a “psychologically intimate biography” by The New Yorker, and longlisted for the 2020 BIO Plutarch Award. Sklenicka’s earlier biography, Raymond Carver: A Writer’s Life was named one of the Ten Best Books of 2009 by The New York Times Book Review, and similarly lauded by The San Francisco Chronicle, The Seattle Times, The Washington Post, and other papers.
