“Most memoirs fail because of voice. It’s not distinct enough to sound alive and compelling…The author’s dead in the water.” -Mary Karr

Consider excerpts from some of the most vivid voices in contemporary creative nonfiction. What makes them sound “alive and compelling” while others fall flat? In this class, we'll learn how and why to speak from an authentic place in memoir. They will also practice differentiating voices of other characters so that not every character sounds like the narrator. This workshop will blend mini-lectures, excerpts from the strongest voices in creative nonfiction, and generative exercises.

Lighthouse North Directions and Parking

Lighthouse North is our satellite location in Boulder County. Please follow the directions below to find us, as putting the address in your GPS will take you to the wrong place.

From Highway 36, take the McCaslin exit, and immediately follow signs for McCaslin North. At the fourth light, turn left (west) onto Century Drive (there's a Walgreens on the NW corner). Take your first left (daycare on that corner). When the road Y's stay right, and when you get to the stop sign, it's the two story brick building on your right with a sign outside that says Office Evolution. Inside the building, follow the Lighthouse North signs to your conference room.

Parking is free and located around the building.
