4-Week: Modern Hope, Social Horror for ages 12+ (Denver)

$200.00 Members
$200.00 Non-members

What are we afraid of? Horror stories show us exactly what we—as a society, a nation, or even as human beings—fear. But modern horror might also provide us a way through surviving the apocalypse, killing the beastie, and making it through the night. Using methods pioneered by Felicia Rose Chavez in the antiracist writing workshop our class will pursue a modern, collective definition of horror and develop techniques for building anticipation, playing with mystery, and building a terrifyingly real world. We will read works by diverse, international modern horror authors in multiple formats (short stories, novellas, novellas in the form of Netflix descriptions, creepypastas). We will find our own voices in writing exercises and prompts and collaborative workshops, to push our own writing further into the dark.
