4-Week: Refuse to Be Done—How to Actually Enjoy Revising Prose (Denver)

$215.00 Members
$240.00 Non-members

As Samuel R. Delany once said, "eighty-five to ninety-five percent of my work is rewriting and revision." So why do we still approach the revision stage with a sour taste in our mouth and a dread in our hearts? Writers often aren't sure of what revision directions would most benefit their current draft. And yes, revising can be difficult, but more often it becomes an incredibly freeing and epiphanic experience. In this class, we'll use Matt Bell's craft text, Refuse to Be Done, as a guide for different and enlightening revision strategies. While Bell is specifically addressing novel revision, his ideas can be applied beyond the novel. For this class, you’ll need to already have a working draft of something in prose (novel, story, memoir, etc.). There will be guided writing prompts, reading discussions, and some exchange of work (but no workshop component). For writers of all skill levels. Come and learn new and exciting ways to re-see your own work.
