8-Week: Advanced Poetry Workshop (Zoom)

$325.00 Members
$355.00 Non-members

The basic expectation for this advanced workshop is that enrolled poets will be writing to publish and our goal is to advance skills, work on craft approaches, engage with the publishing industry, etc., to achieve whatever goal participants desire in that regard. That said, all poets at this advanced level are welcome—classes are focused on building a critical but kind community of inquiry in which to workshop poems and consider issues in contemporary poetry so there is value in having a ‘broad base’ of unique backgrounds and goals. We'll consider each author’s poems individually while also taking a broader view of the work(s) artistic goals, including how they work toward manuscripts.

The instructor's workshop critiques will be deep and thorough and see ‘invisible’ opportunities and to reveal unconscious habits and strategies so we can suss out new abilities and visions in our writing. Participants are expected to give the same level of attention to each other's work. How it works (the balance of approach/workshop/activities): we'll focus on workshop critique first and foremost, then craft strategies (mostly put to the group on unique generative assignments), and then if there is time or interest, there may be discussions on key craft topics relevant to the group.

Prerequisite: Writers in this course should be advanced poets who've taken at least one or more rounds of the intermediate workshop or the equivalent. To apply, please email three to five poems and a brief history of your workshop experience to [email protected].
