8-Week: Experimental/Hybrid Forms

Experimental/Hybrid Forms Workshop

To paraphrase Walter Benjamin, great works either invent or dissolve a genre. In this class, we will investigate how a work of literature can cross borders of form, of genre, and of truth. Where does nonfiction end and fiction begin? When does prose become poetry, the written word become visual art, theory become a fistful of rare flowers? In this generative workshop, we will make our home at these intersections. We will trespass, explore, invent as we work toward our own new forms. Class time will be split between discussion of assigned readings, writing exercises, and sharing creative approaches and responses to experimental works.

Please Note: This is a generative workshop, so there will be no formal critique offered. The goal is for you to produce a lot of writing in a safe environment as we explore textual experimentation and hybridity.

This class is currently full, but please check out an alternative workshop like our 8-Week Online Hybrid, Experimental, and Cross-Genre Forms with Jennifer Denrow. If a space should open up for you in this class, we'd be happy to transfer your registration.
