8-Week: Playwriting Workshop

Playwriting Workshop

This all-levels course is designed to help you discover your dramatic voice and to lure out those wild and woolly characters clamoring to tell their story through you. We’ll attempt to unravel what makes some plays more compelling than others through rich discussion while creating a supportive and nurturing space for new work to be developed. Bring your writing goals, large and small, for this is the perfect opportunity to finish (or start) that piece you've been both dreaming of and avoiding.
We'll cover the ground rules of the stage (structure, character, plot, dialogue, motivation, subtext, silence, etc.) and see how the best plays and playwrights adhere to, and continually break, them. We’ll start class with in-class prompts to help you develop and push your dramatic voice, and we’ll end with workshop. Screenwriters welcome.

Please Note: This class will skip the week of September 9 and run through October 14. It will also be skipping Saturday, September 23; the make-up session for that class will be held Sunday, September 24 from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM.
