Every critic perceives art through the lens of their lived experience, and no two critics see a piece of art quite the same way. Rather than disparage this difference as "bias," this class will look at the ways some of the most effective cultural criticism integrates personal experience and elements of memoir into its discussion of art and its reverberations in society, drawing on work by writers like Hanif Abdurraqib, Doreen St. Felix, Jia Tolentino, and Sarah Nicole Prickett.
