Queer Creatives Retreat Youth Seminar: Fairytales New and Retold (Denver)

$0.00 Members
$0.00 Non-members

Fairytales, folklore, and myth are powerful and universal forms of storytelling. Their traditional themes, archetypes, and motifs are foundational to modern storytelling. Today, they continue to be a highly relevant and effective genre for communicating lessons and reflections on everyday life. There is limitless potential to explore queer and trans identities through these forms.

In this workshop, participants will read and discuss examples of fairytales and then write their own! We will practice using prose, poetry, and hybrid forms, play with symbolism and archetypes, and create pieces which resonate across intersectional identities while centering underrepresented voices.

This workshop is part of the Queer Creatives Retreat and is open to writers ages 13-24 of all genres and creatives of all types who identify as members of LGBTQIA+ communities. We also welcome folks who are questioning their gender or sexual orientation and are in solidarity with LGBTQIA+ communities. Please understand that our intention is to center LGBTQIA+ people at the retreat.
