In honor of October being LGBTQ+ History Month*, let’s turn to our Queer and Trans “ancestors” as a source of writing inspiration. Together, we’ll explore the joy, difficulties, and anxieties about writing with our LGBTQIAP+ identities and histories. This one-day generative workshop includes readings, guided writing prompts, and discussions. By the end of Writing the Rainbow: We Have Always Been Here, writers will have the start of at least one new piece and increased knowledge of LGBTQ writers who wrote before us.

This workshop is for LGBTQIAP+ writers ages 14-18, regardless of genre or writing experience.

*LGBTQ+ History Month is an annual month-long (October 1st – October 31st) observance of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer history, and the history of the gay rights and related civil rights movements. It was founded in 1994 by Missouri high-school history teacher Rodney Wilson, whose vision for the month was to dedicate time to the teaching of LGBT history.
