Whether you’re writing for the big screen or the small one, our landscape is constantly evolving, and ways to get you and your work out there may not be the same as it was the last time you set your writing goals. Spend the weekend with us in this in-person/zoom hybrid event as we set out for a productive and joyful year of screenwriting with timed writing sprints, goal setting workshops, instructor-led first blush readings, and helpful panels with industry experts ready to get us up to speed on what we need to do as a writers for our best writing year yet.  

Additionally, as part of a special collaboration with Roadmap Writers, you'll have the opportunity to meet individually with their staff to map out tangible next steps for you and your career and, featuring individualized meetings with Roadmap staffers to get you started on your personal screenwriting journey.

This event is taking place both in-person in Denver and virtually via Zoom. Instructors and panelists will joining us via a mix of in-person and Zoom, and participants are asked to sign up for whichever format works best for them, and let us know if they have to change format.

And we’ll be joined by Lighthouse screenwriting instructors: Chris Grillot, Raeann Giles, and Jenny Taylor-Whitehorn

The weekend will focus on creating achievable writing and career goals, getting inspired by our fellow writers and working industry professional guests, and carving out the time to do the hardest part of all: write.  Screenwriters and TV writers of all levels are welcome and encouraged to participate.

SCHEDULE:
DAY ONE

8:00 - 9:00 AM: EARLY BIRD WRITING TIME (OPTIONAL)
Silent writing. Get a running start on writing while we set-up for the day.

9:00 AM: INTRODUCTION AND GOAL SETTING
Outlining the goals of the weekend and the goals of your writing year.

9:30 - 11:00 AM: WRITING SPRINTS
Timed writing sprints. 25 minutes write, five minutes break.

11:00 AM - 12:00 PM: PANEL—Writing for TV and the Sample that Got You Started
TV Writers and screenwriters who are working in the business will answer all of our questions about working on your next sample script. What sample scripts got them in? How often do you need a new one? How many do you need? All your questions answered in this very useful panel.

12:00 PM - 1:00 PM: LUNCH BREAK
While lunch won’t be provided, there are a few eateries within driving distance to Lighthouse, as well as a refrigerator and microwave for your use.

During this time you'll sign up for individual meetings with Roadmap Writer staff member to plan how to make your career goals a reality.

1:00 PM - 3:00 PM: TABLE READS AND FIRST BLUSH WORKSHOP
Small groups of writers with drafts will read out loud and discuss cold pages with first blush feedback from a Lighthouse Screenwriting Instructor. Beginners should meet with Jenny Taylor-Whitehorn for a starting from scratch intro to writing for the screen.

3:00 PM: PANEL—Writing for the Big Screen: the Script that Got You Started and Kept You Going
What does it look like to be a working screenwriter? Panelists will discuss how they got their scripts to the big screen, how they keep a career in film, and pro tips for those wanting to be a screenwriter in the industry.

5:00 PM: SCREENWRITER HAPPY HOUR (OPTIONAL)
Have a drink, get to know your screenwriting community! Location TBD.

DAY TWO:

9:00 AM: INTRO TO DAY TWO—Finding (and Selling) your Brand
Figuring out how to sell yourself as a writer with Vice President of Ian Bryce Productions, Will McCance.

9:30 - 11:00 AM: WRITING SPRINTS
Timed writing sprints. 25 minutes write, five minutes break.

11:00 AM - 12:00 PM: PANEL—Catching a Manage or Agent’s Eye
In this panel, we’ll dive deep in what it takes to catch a manager’s eye, as we discover what managers want to see in a sample script, and what a working writer can do to make themselves more appealing in general meetings and bios.

12:00 - 1:00 PM: LUNCH
Sign up for individual ten-minute meetings with Roadmap Writer staff member to plan how to make your career goals a reality.

1:00 - 3:00 PM: TABLE READS
Small groups will continue reading cold pages in a first blush workshop led by a Lighthouse instructor.

3:00 PM: PANEL—What to Expect Working with a Producer, Network, or Studio
Producers, studio executives, and networks will discuss what they’re looking for, how they find new writers, and what they look for in general meetings. Leave this panel informed, updated, and ready to go out into the modern landscape of film and television.
