Weekend Intensive: Reading as a Writer—Pandemic Lit (Denver)

$215.00 Members
$240.00 Non-members

Writers have been imagining plagues and pandemics since someone put the book of Exodus on papyrus around 900 BCE in the court of Solomon. Join us for a whirlwind tour of some of the greatest literary renderings of apocalyptic communicable diseases, with all their misery, suffering, and destruction. What we'll discover is that Pandemic Lit is legitimately a genre (actually, several genres) with a long and distinguished genealogy that begins in antiquity and includes Boccaccio, Defoe, Mary Shelley, Edgar Allen Poe, Jack London, Katherine Ann Porter, and many more. It spans thousands of years and many languages and cultures, giving us not only insight into the past, but also into the way we live now.

Please Note: This class will meet on Friday, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Saturday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and again from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
