Sydney Fowler aims to uplift the voices of the invisible and misrepresented other through their writing, teaching, and activism. After earning a Double BA in Queer Studies and Psychology from Metropolitan State University of Denver, they founded their Sensitivity Reader company, Inqueery, LLC., as a way to provide feedback to authors of fiction and nonfiction on their representations of Queer & Transgender experiences, non-monogamous relationships, interpersonal violence, and mental illnesses. A few recently published books they have consulted on include: The Turnaway Girls by Hayley Chewins (Candlewick), Wilder Girls by Rory Power (Delacorte Press), and Extraordinary Birds by Sandy Stark-McGinnis (Bloomsbury Children’s Books).
Sydney’s publications include an essay in The Snarktastic Guide to College Success (Pearson), a peer-reviewed article in New Directions in Folklore, and a case study on transgender inclusion and feminist activist leadership (currently in press). Sydney is part of the 2019-2021 Book Project cohort and is working on a queer YA novel about a selkie and a coven of witches. Sydney enjoys doodling, learning to find a home in their body, reading books about magic, science, and surrealism, reading tarot cards, cooking complicated meals with friends, and playing strategy board games.
