8-Week: Intermediate Fiction Workshop (Denver)

$340.00 Members
$370.00 Non-members

This workshop is designed for writers who are somewhere in the drafting process and seek guidance, structure, and inspiration to keep writing. Discussions will center on how to identify and articulate the central dramatic question, craft the scene, and build tension, but we'll also focus our exercises and conversation on play, hoping to discover the surprises in our writing. Members will study point-of-view and character development, as well as practice the fundamentals of pacing through the balanced use of showing and telling to maintain dramatic conflict. Writers of novels and short stories are welcome, but our examples will primarily be short stories.

Writers in this class can expect some out of class reading, lecture and discussion, frequent in-class writing, and will share up to 30 pages of their manuscript with the instructor and group for critique.

Prerequisite: At least one introductory or intermediate fiction workshop; if you have not taken one of these courses at Lighthouse, please send a brief writing sample (three to five pages) to [email protected]
